Georgia Piedmont Technical College

Founded in 1961, Georgia Piedmont Tech is in Clarkston in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. Vocational nursing students at Georgia Piedmont pursue a mix of practical and theoretical courses for a rounded educational experience. Clinical experiences mix with classroom study for skills relevant to the modern workplace.

Admission Requirements:

  • Five pre-requisite courses are mandatory (C grade minimum): Fundamentals of English, Foundations of Mathematics, Basic Psychology, Medical Terminology for Allied Health Sciences, Anatomy and Physiology. The last two must have been taken no more than five years ago or they are to be repeated
  • Entrance exam scoring a minimum 64.3%
  • GED or High School Diploma (submit transcripts)
  • Proof of citizenship or Permanent Residence status
  • A $25 application fee

Chattahoochee Technical College

It’s the largest technical college in Georgia and within the Atlanta Metropolitan Area; it has eight separate campuses serving five counties. Students will learn how to manage day-to-day patient care particularly for those receiving long-term care. Also covers training in ambulatory services, home health care, and the state’s urgent care centers.

Admission Requirements:

  • The college has several pre-admission courses for applicants covering math, composition and rhetoric, and several anatomy modules (including lab work) and medical terminology. Introduction to psychology is also required
  • Pass the ATI TEAS exam with a minimum score of 60
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Minimum Admission Points of 320 which will look at academic background, among other things

Southern Crescent Technical College

This public community college has four main campuses. The Griffin Campus is within the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. The college delivers technical education for nursing, delivering clinical experiences and classroom study for full preparation for licensure as practical nurses. Subject matters include physiology, drug calculations, drug administration, nutrition, ethics, and care.

Admission Requirements:

  • Application fee must accompany application forms
  • High school transcript or GED transcripts – complete with scores
  • Successfully complete (if you don’t already have them) courses in English psychology, math, biology, high school science, with a minimum score of B’s
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Minimum 25% must be completed on campus
  • Completed nationalized nursing admissions tests

West Georgia Technical College

Based in Carrollton and part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, this public community college offers practical technical training for nursing and many other subjects. The program delivers a mix of practical training and core skills so the student can pass the NCLEX-PN for licensure. You must pass several prerequisite courses to be eligible.

Admission Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 16
  • High School graduates must submit their transcripts. International students are welcome, but must get their qualifications translated for consideration
  • Military personnel must submit DD form 214 proving HS graduation and grades
  • Homeschooled students are subjects to a range of checks depending on where they were homeschooled. Check the college website for further details
