Becoming an LPN in Charlotte

North Carolina is home of the famous research triangle that is composed of Duke University, The University of North Carolina, and North Carolina State University. Together, these three schools have created a jobs boom in the state and increased the population. As workers in the state begin to retire, their needs for healthcare will increase along with the demand for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s).

Charlotte, which is part of the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill metropolitan area, is the largest and most populated region of North Carolina. It employs 2,960 LPN’s who earn average annual salaries of $41,640. That’s $1,412 less than the national median salary for LPN’s, which is estimated at $43,052 per year. However, LPN’s in the Charlotte metro region make salaries slightly above the median statewide in North Carolina, which is $41,500 per year.

North Carolina has no shortage of fully-accredited and licensed schools for aspiring LPN’s to choose from. These include Cleveland Community College, ECPI University – Charlotte, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, and South Piedmont Community College. In addition, there are 35 colleges in the state of North Carolina that offer LPN programs, and many are within short driving distance of the Charlotte area.

New graduates of LPN programs have a wealth of opportunities to find jobs in the state. Organizations in the Charlotte region that hire large numbers of LPN’s include BAYADA Home Health Care, Medical Facilities of America, Carolinas HealthCare System, Octapharma Plasma, Inc., Gentiva Health Services, Inc., Novant, ResCare, and many more.

The job outlook for LPN’s in North Carolina will continue to be bright in the future, as the number of LPN jobs is expected to increase by 10 percent by the year 2020. Most of those jobs in the state will be concentrated in the Charlotte metro area.
