Indianapolis currently has one community college where students may study practical nursing. In May 2021, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) most recent report stated that 4,780 practical nurses worked in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area (which includes Carmel and Anderson). This was 15% of the total number of nurses.

The BLS expects a much higher than average rise in demand for nurses through the 2020s due to longevity and associated long-term healthcare issues.

Ivy Tech is an Indiana-based network of colleges. They offer practical nursing at several campuses across the state in which students utilize both simulated care scenarios and real-world skills in a healthcare setting. The colleges have state-of-the-art labs in which students can hone skills.

Admission Requirements:

GPA score of 2.6 or higher
A Core 40, Technical Honors or Academic Honors equivalent, so long as your graduation was no more than four years ago
Minimum SAT scores (within the last four years) are 25 for reading, 27 for writing & language, and 500 for math
Minimum ACT scores (within the last four years) are 17 for English, 18 for reading, and 18 for math
Minimum PSAT Scores (within the last four years) are 26 for writing, 25 for reading and 24.5 for math
